Welcome to the Beginning of the Rest of Your Semester

So I didn't want to build things up too much here. I won't promise to change all of your lives permanently.  I do hope however that this semester will shake off some of the inevitable cobwebs that have formed over the summer and renew in you a sense of purpose as artists to go forth and create.

For some of you, this is a return to a familiar set of surroundings and circumstances at Roberts. For a few, this may be the first time you have set foot on the campus, and everything is new, and perhaps a bit daunting. Well, whatever the case may be, you're welcome in my classroom. I'm one of those for whom this is a new endeavor, this being my first semester teaching here. And I hope that is the first of many fruitful years helping to bring my knowledge and experience to students eager to harness the power of visual art through time based media. As you might have noticed by the title of this blog, that is what we're about here.

Just a quick note about what to find here. On the right side of the page, you'll notice several things. First, in the blogroll area is where I'll be putting links to all of your blogs once their up and running, and maybe a few others I collect along the way. Consider this a central clearing house for you to keep tabs on what others are saying about things they are reading, viewing and working on. It's a great way to keep the dialog going outside of class. You'll also see a list of films I've been watching. Whenever I mention a film here, or anywhere on my page, I'll try to link it to something so you can find out more about it. Last, I have a list of interesting websites from other filmmakers and artists, or film/video resources you might want to peruse. Just as you are expected to be writing on your blog, I haven't let myself off the hook. I'll be reading and watching plenty, and writing about it all here. So check back often.

As difficult as it is to buckle down and prepare for a new academic year after a long, hot summer, I'd like to assure you that I'll do everything I can to foster your growth as artists, hopefully in ways that will be engaging to you, and leave you ready for more.
